The Giving Tree ( it grows in me )

Listen to THE GIVING TREE here ~The Giving Tree (Spotify)  buy tickets to The Northern Exposure Launch here ~ Tickets

So one day I was playing around in my home studio and I came up with a little guitar part that turned into a full song really quickly it took about 20 minutes . That was it I put down my guitar , closed my laptop and really didn't think about it for a couple of weeks but then decided there was something there and dedicated myself to writing the lyrics but hmmmm the dreaded brain block .

I couldn't think of a theme and then I remembered a youtuber suggesting googling book titles to find inspiration so I did and the 1964 classic children's book ' The Giving Tree ' by Shel Silverstein came up . As a child I remember the book been a sweet story about unconditional love and giving. But as an adult I sensed a double meaning and it turns out a lot of people on the internet and in the real world have debated the true meaning of this book for many years .

I however decided to find inspiration in my childhood interpretation, creating a story where I am the giving tree , that unconditional love and unconditional giving grows in me .

The first demo i made for the giving tree was a soft folk song really , But as soon as I started playing it with the band it quickly turned into a rock song . I will include the demo for anyone interested in listening to it 😂

Todd Macalpine had put the call out for local bands to record a song at Pandamonium Records and I jumped at the chance , we headed into the studio and recorded mostly live as a band with myself on Vocals and guitar, Joel Clement on drums , Mark Mayhew on bass , Nathan Parise on lead guitar and Aurelle Brunjes on backing vocal . I am super stoked at how it turned out and can't wait to perform live at the Northern Exposure album launch this Saturday 17th April with new bass player Kalen Simpson and special guests Vivien Aisi lending her soulful backing vocals and Ian McPherson from My Deaf Eyes on drums , it's the party of the year !
